Your tour guide will pick you up from your hotel in Aswan and bring you to the Nile side where your boat will be waiting for you. Climb on your boat and cross the Nile to the high cliffs opposite Aswan, just north of Kitchener Island. A set of stairs that cut through the hill takes you to the tombs from the boat landing. The tombs of the nobility in Aswan date mainly from the Old, Middle and New Kingdoms of ancient Egypt, and most follow a simple plan, containing an entrance hall, a pillared room, and a corridor leading to the burial chamber. The tombs provide important vivid murals showing scenes from the details of the officials’ daily lives. The tombs are decorated with biographies and hieroglyphic inscriptions that tell of the nobles’ travels to Africa. At the top of the hill, above the tombs of the nobles, there is a small shrine or tomb for a local sheikh and cleric, “Qubbat al-Hawa,” translated as “Dome of the Wind.” The climb is rewarded with amazing views of Aswan, the Nile River, and the surrounding landscape. After completion, transfer back to the Nile cruise or the hotel in Aswan.
